Star Wars Exhibit at the Exploration Place

The Exploration Place is part of the ASTC Passport program.
300 N. McLean Blvd, Wichita, KS 67203,  Phone 316-660-0600
First, some things to know:  for safety reasons flip flops aren’t allowed on the hover craft experience, bring a sweater for kids that chill easily (though it is hard to imagine being cold in Kansas right now), strollers aren’t allowed in the Star Wars exhibit, the Millennium Falcon is $3 per person and worth the money.
This special exhibit is worth the drive to visit.  I could go on and on about the models, the costumes, the actual land cruiser from the move, but this exhibit is so much more than that.  There are science inquiry interactives for kids sprinkled generously throughout the exhibit.  Most of these activities will appeal to kids ages 7-14, however the exhibit does a great job of including something for all ages, including preschoolers and teenagers.   Our favorite one was the virtual city building interactive.  There are three stations where you build a different Tatooine city or camp. Efficiency and productivity are the types of things you are graded on at each station.  They are timed so you have a few minutes to work on each one, at the end of the time you get a report on your success level.  The virtual technology of this activity is hands down the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen.  The Exploration Place has a lot to offer besides this exhibit, so it is worth a visit even if you miss the Star Wars exhibit.  Some of the highlights are the tot/preschool room, flying a Wright Brothers’ plane, and Where Kids Rule.
Also, if you have the time, visit the Old Cowtown Museum.  I am a huge fan of immersion and interactive museums and exhibits.  If you do too, you will love Old Cowtown.  Check out their website http://www.oldcowtown.org for more information.
